Driving your brand
Sep 24 2007
I saw something interesting as I was in my car. A car with a full graphics wrap (many Atlanta area residents would recognize the name of the business so I won’t mention it) was on the side of the road, pulled over by county police. Think about the potential conclusions you could draw about that company and their business practices… They don’t care about safety, their employees drive recklessly, they must not do thorough background checks on their people. Or it could have been something completely innocuous like a taillight being out.
But incidents like these can undermine the integrity of your business. I’m sure that hundreds of cars passed by while the driver of the wrapped car was being ticketed and took extra notice simply because there was a business name wrapped around it in big two foot tall red letters. Driving a car with your company’s logo on it means that you’re actually driving your brand around town. If you rear-end a minivan on a local street, so did your business. If you speed or cut someone off on the road, so did your business.
The same rule goes for being out in public wearing company shirts, jackets, hats and other branded items. When you do, you wear your company’s reputation on your sleeve. Literally.
