greg bond’s journey from video games to adwords
Remember video games in DOS? Well, thanks to the thousands of problems with gaming in DOS, I learned how to use computers at five years old. My parents only purchased one computer. After that, I was building them from scratch, prior to hardware standardization.
Over the years, I slowly emerged from my nerd core to build my gradeschool’s website and compete in some of the first computer gaming competitions. One of my awards was for a national competition in Number Crunchers. Fortunately, my peers thought it was cool and I didn’t have to worry about bullies. In 1999, Napster hit the scene. At fourteen years old, I realized there was far more I could accomplish with computers than what I had been doing. Months later, I was setting up VPNs with tunneling and stretching Windows 98 to its limits, which wasn’t all that far.
In high school, I excelled in math, science, and programming vBasic and qBasic. After getting a chance for a full-scholarship to OSU for physics, I decided business school at Miami University would stretch my brain in another useful direction. Marketing and Entrepreneurship seemed to complement my tech background best.
Fresh out of college, I moved to Atlanta to help a traditional media agency with the digital conversion. After nearly three years, the mountains of Colorado beckoned. Having saved up enough the year prior, I moved to Denver to pursue the lifestyle I had sought.
Today, I’m a Swiss Army knife in digital marketing. I’ve strategized, planned, placed, and tracked both local and national Adwords, Facebook, and Doubleclick ad campaigns. Internally, digital process creation, project management, and optimizing application utilization are key parts of my portfolio.
